70 Chevelle
- January 31st, 2010
This 70 Chevelle is a matching numbers car, complete w/ build sheet.
I bought it in Michigan about 6 years ago, brought it home, and then completely, and I mean completely, disassembled it, to commence the total restoration.
The frame was striped, sandblasted, & powdercoated in Satin-Black. All suspension components were also blasted & finished in Satin Black. All new 70’s style shocks.
All bolts & bushings replaced. All break lines/fittings replaced. All brake components replaced. The posi was sent out for freshening. All new exhaust, from correct exh manifolds, correct pipe configuration, to correct exh hangers & chrome tips. All new correct wiring. Correct tower clamps, hoses, color-coded fuel line clamps.
The body went off to Cahill Autobody for them to do their magic. They are the best in the province. New doors, front quarters, and full rear quarters. Did it really need them replaced? No, as I sold the replaced components for all most as much as the new ones, but going new was simply the right way to go, as I had to have it perfect.
They also sand blasted the complete underside of the body, and undercoated it. The trunk has the correct finish. Factory jack & spare included. The new paint is better than perfect. Where GM usually put the lead in the rear quarter – roof panel joint (& it was always wavey), here it’s perfect, w/o the lead crap. The SS stripes can not be detected on surface touch. The cowl induction scoop & components are all perfectly correct & working.
The 396 (402) 350 hp engine went out to Ken’s Kustom Machine, for a complete rebuild. He re-decked it (saving the S/N), and installed a new rotating assembly. The heads were freshened up, and the carb rebuilt. The 4 spd tranny was serviced, and needed no new parts. It, along with the bell housing, was bead blasted & clear coated. All new clutch, pressure plate & throw out bearing. Although the Muncie shifter & linkage was replaced w/ Hurst by the previous owner, I re-installed the factory Muncie stuff.
The dash was completely disassembled & all req’d components replaced. The carpet, door skins, & console were replaced / refinished. The seats & headliner were already perfect.
Once completey re-assembled, the car, w/ the factory power window & light group options, was appraised a #1.
It has not seen one mile of road yet.
